You’re probably used to shopping online at major retailers like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart – but a not so hidden secret is Alibaba. They’ve been around in China since 1999 (founded by 17 friends) and what started out as a B2B business has now successfully morphed into B2C business where millions upon millions of shoppers are buying thousands of items on a daily basis.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Alibaba is now one of the most popular and fastest growing e-commerce sites and online shopping with more than $240 billion in online sales. And they have just about everything. Really. Almost anything you can imagine, they sell. And if you have stuff to sell, you can signup to become an authorized seller as well. Outside of selling, some of their most popular areas to shop consist of things like:
- Tech, Gadgets & Electronics
- Beauty, Makeup & Skincare
- Outdoor Activities, Sporting Goods & Workout Gear
- Fashion & Accessories
- Home Decor & Outdoor Garden Essentials
On a personal note, I think Alibaba can be a total game-changer when it comes to tech and gadgets, especially when it comes to things like the latest iPhones, earbuds, Apple Smart-Watches, tablets, fitness trackers – you name it.
When it comes to pricing, overall it’s pretty decent – but is always dependent on each seller. You can always read their reviews, see the suppliers overall ratings, see if they’re an officially verified seller, and more. Like with any online retailer, there will always be a mix of customer experiences. Some are spectacular and some, well, not so great. I think as long as you keep your expectations in check and do your research, you can have a really decent experience and save some cash. I also recommend checking out their insane TikTok videos, where their hashtag alone has raked in almost 900 million video views from social media folks who are pretty obsessed (from buying to selling).
ALIBABA SALES, DEALS & COUPONSI totally get that everyone wants the best deal, especially when it comes to shopping online. I researched what the real deal was with Alibaba’s promo code situation, sales, and overall discounts.
When it comes to coupons themselves, yes, you can use them when you checkout directly on their website. However, Alibaba typically doesn’t give out discount codes online – but at times their individual sellers will. If you see all these codes on other third-party websites the likelihood of them working is pretty much slim-to-none. Your best bet is to shop them direct and there you’ll see any coupons and deals they’re currently running.
At last glance, you can get an extra $10 coupon when you shop a new seller with minimum purchase. And then, overall, when it comes to sale prices you can usually save up to 50% off some of their top selling items. For sales, you don’t need a coupon to take part in their various deals.
Since they are a Chinese retailer, I didn’t see a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale (at least not yet). But they did have a “Singles Day” sale that started the Wednesday before the US standard Black Friday. That’s when, for 24 hours, you could save up to 70% off, which is pretty amazing and well worth the wait!
