Someone better tell Santa to start making these earlier because the new Love to Hug Elmo is likely to be one of the biggest toys of the year, again. Again.
If your kiddos loved their laughing Tickle Me Elmo from yesteryear, they’re going to become obsessed with the latest and, in our opinion, greatest version yet. This one is called Love to Hug Elmo and, well, he actually does love to hug. Seriously, who doesn’t want a hug from him?!
At the recent NYC Toy Fair, Playskool announced this latest lovable little fur-ball and we can’t wait to meet him. Here’s everything we know about him. First off, he’s a little over 1-foot tall (13-inches to be exact) and he’s totally plush and cuddly. All your kids have to do is squeeze his puppet-like tummy and he’ll magically (thanks to batteries) raise his arms and ask them for a hug. We officially need this every single Sunday night for the rest of our lives.
Outside of getting the cutest little hug ever, Elmo can also give you a kiss, sing a catchy song (of course), or even say a phrase or two. We never get sick of hearing his voice and, well, we’ve heard it over 1,100,039 times in the last year alone. What’s a bit different this time around is that Elmo is actually bilingual. Good for him. By the flip of a switch you can have an English speaking Elmo or a Spanish speaking one. Besos all around!
When is the Official Release Date?
Love to Hug Elmo is officially being released into all of our lives on September 20, 2019. Pre Order yours here!
What Will the Price Be?
This one isn’t too bad. The suggested retail price will set you back $29.99
The New “Love to Hug” Elmo – Buy It Here
If you’re looking for the latest Tickle Me Elmo (from last year) keep reading because we reviewed him below.
This review originally appeared in September 2017 and was updated in March 2018.
Hide your kids, hide your wife because Tickle Me Elmo is back, he’s new, he’s still laughing is fur off, and he thankfully comes with a new off button.
That’s right folks, if you’re just finally dusting off the remnants of the 1996 Tickle Me Elmo craze, it’s clearly time to lace up your shoes and get ready to fist-fight some annoying parents on Thanksgiving night at Walmart (most likely) because the new and improved Tickle Me Elmo is slated to be one of the hottest kids toys for this upcoming holiday season. I mean, it’s 2017 so you can basically just buy him online and save your trip to the store, but good luck getting him anywhere as it gets closer to Christmas. With the ongoing craze over the new Luvabella doll or everything that’s going on with the new Hatchimals Surprise, it’s only fitting that people want to go back to simpler nostalgic times and take comfort in Elmo. He’s already flying off the shelves (see evidence below).
Here’s what we know about the new furry little giggling muppet. First off, he’s so much cuter than the original that debuted in 1996 and was made hugely successful thanks to Rosie O’Donnell (remember that!?). His red fur is way more muppet-y than ever before and is so soft and comfy. He also more touch-points to interact with him than ever before. Your kiddos can squeeze his cute little tummy or press his furry feet and Tickle Me Elmo will start to laugh and giggle (and so will you, at first). But this new Elmo is a glutton for punishment because the more they continue to squeeze and tickle him, the harder and harder he’ll laugh until he actually starts to move and shake. Now at this point you, as the adult, may be over it but your kids are going to absolutely love it and continue to laugh even harder with him.
[ Update: September 15, 2017 ] Parents who have this little guy already have been freaking out over Elmo saying the same phrase over and over (and over and over) again. Pretty annoying. Apparently the trick is that when you take him out of the packaging you need to flip the “on” switch which will take him off “try me demo mode”and he’ll say way more funny phrases. One of the things we were most excited about was that this Tickle Me Elmo comes with a handy-dandy shut-off switch. Hooray! Because there really was nothing worse than the original Tickle Me Elmo just going off and starting to laugh out of nowhere in the middle of the night. Oh, and then there was this incident:
So what’s the price of this new Elmo? It’s actually not that bad. Hasbro has a suggested retail price of $24.99, so compared to some other toys, we’re not hating the price. However, per usual this new Tickle Me Elmo is selling out all over the place (go figure) so some people are paying way more, unfortunately. Here’s one place where you can buy the new Elmo for a decent price online:
