YETI Colster Slim Review 2024

If you read us regularly, you know we love a franchise around here.  Our really popular Trendy AF franchise looks at a product category that’s currently trending, but our new franchise “Is It Worth It…Let Me Work It” looks at one particular product that’s getting some buzz and we decided to buy it, try it, and let you know if we think it’s actually worth it.  Not everything is going to be worth it!

This week, I got my hands on the YETI Slim Colster.  You may have read about their original Colster or you may even own it, but the slim is the one everyone is buzzing about these days.

You know I’m pretty much obsessed with all things YETI, even though their prices are typically through the roof.  I was intrigued by the Slim Colster for two reasons:

  • The price (It’s only $25)
  • It’s made specifically for tall-slim can seltzers like White Claw, Truly, etc.

First off, please note that I purchased this myself.  No one “gifted” me one to review.  So basically I’m on the hook even if it’s a bust.

Now, YETI is known for a few things; having really high-quality products, keeping drinks super cold for a long (long) time, and pretty much never going on sale.  For the Colster, here are some of the selling points:

The Selling Points
  • Double Wall Vacuum Insulation to keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours.
  • It’s dent-resistant and hold up to accidental drops.
  • Prevents condensation so it doesn’t sweat, leave ring-marks, or keep your hands wet.
  • It has Duracoat color so it resists chips and cracks.
  • It’s totally dishwasher safe.
  • 12 ounce slim design meant for most of your favorite hard seltzers.

The color I purchased was copper because I just thought it looked pretty cool.  It actually had a nice little shine too it without making it look cheap at all.  And my drink of choice to use was a traditional White Claw.  Don’t judge.  I’m trying to watch my calorie intake when drinking so, well, tall cans is what’s been happening around here lately.

I tested out my Colster over the course of four weeks with about 8 days/nights of drinking (not in a row!).  My White Claws were already cold so I popped off the top (well, unscrewed it) and placed the can inside and then screwed it back on.  It hid the majority of the can (some still poked out the top), but it did keep it cold.  Like, really cold.

On average I was switching out my drinks about every 45 minutes to 1-hour so I can say that it stayed just as cold the entire time.  But, for research purposes, I kept one out for 24-hours and taste-tested it over that time period.  Here’s that breakdown:

  • 4-Hours:  Still just as cold.
  • 8-Hours:  Still just as cold.
  • 12-Hours:  Slightly less cold, but still totally refreshing.
  • 24-Hours:  Cold-ish.  Definitely not warm, but definitely above room temperature.

Now let’s get down to some of my pros and cons from my experience.

PROS

• It really did keep my drink really refreshingly cold.

• For YETI, the price is actually a total win.

• You can toss it in the dishwasher when you need to clean it.

• Even when I did drop it (a few times on purpose) it didn’t dent and the paint color didn’t chip.

• They have more than 10 different trendy colors to choose from.

Let’s not forget about the cons:

CONS

• A few times I had a little bit of a tough(ish) time turning my Colster to secure my White Claw.

• If you have something bigger than 12 ounces you have to get their 16 ounce option instead.  Make sure you know the size of your favorite beverage before you buy it.

• It typically never goes on sale, which can be frustrating.

Ok, so this is it.  When all is said and done, is the Slim Colster really worth it?

My take?  It actually is worth it.   Not everything from YETI I think is – but for me the low price and how long it keeps your drink cold for really is a win-win.

It’s going to be a total game-changer during  the summer months when you’re having drinks outside at a BBQ, hanging out at the beach – you name it.    And the fact that it’ll fit some of the most popular hard seltzer cans means you don’t have to buy all different sizes, which is a plus.

If you’re looking to pick one up for yourself, I’d recommend shopping direct at YETI, especially to see if they have any promo offers or incentives going on today.  Hey, it happens sometimes!
